Cossack ghost town awakens for Art After Dark experience
The historic town of Cossack will transform into a unique arts and entertainment hub for one night only with the launch of Cossack Art After Dark.
Featured as part of the 2025 Cossack Art Awards public program, presented by the City of Karratha with Principal Partner Rio Tinto, this event combines live music, art activations and cultural performances, offering an exciting new experience to the exhibition.
Leading the night’s entertainment is headline act Set Mo. The Sydney-based electronic duo, made up of Nick Drabble and Stu Turner, has become a mainstay in the Australian dance music scene. Over the past decade, they’ve built an international following with their blend of house, disco, and electronic sounds, accumulating over 150 million streams and performing at major festivals including Splendour In The Grass, Listen Out and Beyond The Valley.
Joining Set Mo is Exmouth-based artist Shmoné, who returns to the region after a popular performance at last year’s FeNaClNG Festival in Karratha. Known for his energetic live shows, Shmoné has built a strong following across WA, performing from Fremantle to Kununurra and regularly collaborating with local and travelling musicians. His blend of original music and collaborations have made him a crowd favourite across regional events.
City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said events like Cossack Art After Dark highlight the City’s ongoing commitment to supporting arts and culture in the region.
“Arts and culture play a vital role in strengthening our community and making the City of Karratha a vibrant place to live, work and visit,” Cr Scott said.
“Events like the Cossack Art Awards not only provide opportunities for local and visiting artists but also give our community the chance to experience high-quality performances and exhibitions right here in the Pilbara.”
In addition to the live music, Cossack Art After Dark will feature popular local DJ Mango Cha Cha as well as a silent disco zone, giving attendees the chance to switch between music channels while enjoying the atmosphere of the historic ghost town and exhibition.
Visual artist Steven Firman will create live body art throughout the night, while urban artist Lawry Halden will work on a large-scale canvas painting in real-time, adding to the interactive and creative atmosphere.
The one-off event offers a rare opportunity to explore the Cossack Art Awards exhibition after hours, with a fully licensed bar available for attendees.
Entry is free but bookings are essential, with a return bus service available from Karratha for $20.
Cossack Art After Dark will take place on Saturday 9 August 2025 from 6.30pm to 11pm and is an 18+ event. Tickets are limited, secure your spot now: cossackartawards.com.au/public-program
